Monica C. Fluegge of Jackson has been promoted to real-estate loan officer at Boatmen's Bank.

Fluegge joined Boatmen's in 1991 as a real-estate loan associate. She was promoted to real-estate lead-loan processor in 1992.

In her new duties, she will help customers in home financing.

Fluegge, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, previously worked as a real-estate loan officer at Capital Bank.

Kay Tropf and Debbie Quinn, both of Cape Girardeau, have joined Cutt'n On The River beauty salon, 211A S. Kingshighway, as hair stylists.

Tropf, who has a year's experience, is a graduate of Evans Beauty Academy of Arts and Science at Sikeston.

Quinn, who has about three years experience, is a graduate of Stage One, The Beauty School, in Cape Girardeau.

Satoru Akiyama has been named president of Biokyowa Inc. at Cape Girardeau.

Akiyama succeeds Sumio Kurihara, who will remain with the company as a director-senior adviser.

Kurihara has been at the Cape Girardeau plant since it opened in 1984.

Susan Daugherty of Jackson, secretary for the Cape Girardeau County Extension Center, has been named as one of the top three secretaries in the University of Missouri system.

She was honored recently during an awards ceremony at the UM-Columbia campus.

Marty Scholl, secretary of the Cape Girardeau County Farm Bureau office, recently attended the Missouri Farm Bureau County Office Secretaries Conference in Jefferson City.

More than 125 secretaries attended the program to discuss new computer programs, insurance industry changes, communications and public relations. They also received instructions on new computer programs.

Capital Bancorporation Inc. announced that Kenneth W. Quertermous has been appointed vice president.

Quertermous, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, was employed for 13 years by the Missouri Division of Finance, attaining the level of senior bank examiner III.

The company owns and operates bank facilities in 26 locations, including Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Poplar Bluff, Ste. ST. LOUIS Mercantile Bancorporation Inc. reported net income of $28,089,000 for the second quarter of 1993, an increase of 17.8 percent over second-quarter 1992 earnings of $23.8 million.

Second-quarter per-share income rose 13.2 percent, to $1.20, up from the $1.06 of 1992.

Net income for the first half of 1993 was $545,368,000, compared with $45.6 million during the first six months of 1992, an increase of 21.2 percent. Per-share income year-to-date was $2.38, up 13.5 percent from $2.08 in 1992.

"A strong net-interest-rate margin, and an increase in non-interest income fueled another quarter of sustained earnings growth," said Thomas H. Jacobsen, Mercantile's chairman and CEO. "Mercantile is proceeding on plan, with solid earnings, asset quality improvements and productivity gains."

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. - Spiegel Inc. has promoted Richard T. Fersch to president of its Eddie Bauer subsidiary.

Fersch had been executive vice president and chief operating officer of Eddie Bauer.

Spiegel, based in Downers Grove, markets apparel and home furnishings through catalogs and more than 250 specialty retail stores.

NORTHBROOK, Ill. - A 17-year veteran of marketing research has been named president and chief operating officer of Nielsen Marketing Research USA.

George Garrick, 40, of London, will assume his new positions immediately, said John C. Holt, chairman and chief executive officer of A.C. Nielsen. Garrick replaces John H. Costello, who resigned in March.

Marilyn Curtis, director of St. Francis Medical Center laboratories, announced that Horn-Stahr Lab, 36-1 Doctors Park, has changed its name to St. Francis Regional Laboratories.

The outreach lab will now bill for insurance when lab tests are done at the Doctors Park location as well as at the medical center.

The change took effect July 1.
