Rust & Martin Inc. has received one of three of the prestigious ARTS Award in the category of Furniture Stores in the Midwest-Southwest region.

The ARTS Award, presented by the Dallas Market Center and Accessories Resource Team, honors outstanding achievement in retailing of decorative accessories.

The ARTS Award nominating process starts in August, when manufacturers in the decorative accessories industry are asked to nominate outstanding retailers from three geographical locations -- East-Atlanta, Midwest-Southwest and West. Three nominees are recognized in each category.

Rust & Martin received its award for Furniture Stores in the Midwest-Southwest region.

All ARTS Award winners were revealed during a gala evening event on opening day of the Dallas Super Market in the Great Hall of the International Apparel Mart in Dallas. More than 500 people turned out to witness the event.

Spartech Corp. has announced a significant increase in its results for the quarter ended Jan. 28.

Bradley B. Buechler, Spartech president and chief executive officer, reported quarterly earnings of $3.1 million, or 13 cents for primary up from the $2.1 million and 9 cents fully diluted earnings per share during the same quarter a year ago.

Revenues were $79.3 million for the quarter, an increase of 61 percent from the $49.2 million reported during the same period a year ago.

Spartech, headquartered in St. Louis, has two operations in Cape Girardeau -- Atlas-Alchem Plastics, One Atlas Drive, and The Resin Exchange, One Plastics Avenue, in the Nash Road Industrial Park.

Dana Corp., headquartered in Toledo, Ohio, has announced record sales for 1994.

Sales reached $6.6 billion, up $1.1 billion, or 21 percent, from 1993 sales. Net income for the year was also a record, up 78 percent to $228 million, or $2.31 per share, compared with $129 million, or $1.39 per share, in 1993.

A local Dana facility is the Spicer Axle Division at 2075 Corporate Circle in Cape Girardeau.

"Much of Dana's 1994 growth was driven by the widespread popularity of pickup trucks, vans and sport utility vehicles for which we supply many key components, and of heavy trucks, which reached their highest production level in 15 years," said Southwood J. Morcott, Dana chairman, president and chief executive officer.

Ameritech Corp. plans to buy up to $400 million worth of equipment from Scientific-Atlanta Inc. for sending video programs over telephone lines.

The five-year agreement is for television set-top terminals and remote controls that consumers will use to select programs, Ameritech said.

Scientific-Atlanta, based in Norcross, Ga., also will provide equipment for network switching centers, Ameritech said.

Ameritech also announced a five-year contract with Digital Equipment Corp. worth up to $40 million and a six-year deal with ADC Telecommunications Inc. worth as much as $35 million for equipment to be used in the venture.

Ameritech, based in Chicago, is a telecommunications company providing local exchange telephone service in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan and Wisconsin.
