"Drop by anytime," a Southeast Missourian advertisement designed by Teresa Connell, assistant to the advertising director, received a "Certificate of Merit" in the 60th International Newspaper Marketing Association/Editor & Publisher Award Competition.

The 2-x-5 ad depicts the use of a new payment drop slot at the front and back doors of The Missourian at 301 Broadway in Cape Girardeau.

The advertising was entered in the "In-Paper Promotion: Public Relations" category for newspapers under 50,000. Entries competed for first-place recognition and a "Certificate of Merit."

New Jackson Chamber of Commerce officers will be installed June 26 during the installation banquet, to be held at Bent Creek Golf Club.

New officers are Larry Hall, president; Jeff Moore, vice president; and Brent Wills, secretary-treasurer.

Professional Secretaries International (PSI) will meet Tuesday at the Drury Lodge.

"Current and New Trends in Computer Hardware and Software" will be the topic of the program. Ross Austin, vice president of marketing, and Mike Southard, account executive from Computers Plus, will present the program.

The Cape Girardeau School of Real Estate will conduct a 60-hour pre-license sales course July 7 through 14 at its facility at 55 N. Pacific. The test will be given July 15 at Southeast Missouri State University.

Instructors at the school are Thomas L. Meyer, Thomas M. Meyer, Mary Kistner, Steve Popp and Brenda Bunch.

The school is in its 19th year of operation. The course of study is approved and required by the Missouri State Real Estate Commission.

A new Drury Inn hotel opened recently at Terre Haute, Ind.

The property, at Interstate 70 and Highway 41, and the Pear Tree Inn By Drury at the same intersection, are owned by Druco Inc., and operated by Drury Inns Inc.

The opening of the 153-room hotel created 30 to 35 jobs.

Drury Inns own and operate more than 70 Drury Inn, Pear Tree Inn by Drury, Thrifty Inn, Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels in 12 states.

Southeast Missouri State University has received an American Economic Development Council Sales Literature and Promotional Materials Award for the research report, "Basic Skills and Work Values: Desirable Attributes of New Employees."

The report was conducted by Dr. Jack Sterrett, associate professor of marketing, and Dr. David Kunz, associate professor of accounting and finance.

Buz Sutherland, director of the Small Business Development Center at the university, accepted the award on behalf of the university during the group's conference held in Orlando, Fla.

Food Giant Supermarket, 1120 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau, is participating in a program to provide funds for the 1995 Special Olympics World Games.

A portion of proceeds from specially marked baked goods bearing "Share in The Spirit" labels, will be donated to the World Games.
