Bank of Missouri adopts Eagle Ridge school

Eagle Ridge Christian School in Cape Girardeau was officially adopted by The Bank of Missouri during the August Business After Hours function. This is the first time for both the school and the bank to participate in the Chamber of Commerce Adopt-a-School program. Much planning is taking place on both sides to make this partnership a successful endeavor.

On the first day of school for Eagle Ridge, representatives from the bank welcomed back the teachers and staff with a continental breakfast. They also brought in academic planners and gifts for the educators.

Main Street Basic Training scheduled

Those interested in learning about the Main Street Approach to commercial district revitalization can attend a workshop Sept. 7-8 featuring National Main Street Center staff. During this intensive, two-day training, participants will study each of the four elements of the Main Street Approach: organization, promotion, design and economic restructuring.

The training is for anyone interested in learning about commercial district revitalization: new Main Street directors, board and committee members; urban planners, chamber executives, economic development professionals, community development corporation directors. There is a daily fee of $25 per day.

Saint Francis, Optimists team up for children

Saint Francis Medical Center received a donation from the Cape Girardeau Evening Optimist Club to provide an activity/therapy area for pediatric patients and their families at the Medical Center.

Evening Optimist president Charlie Harrison presented the $10,000 check to Saint Francis vice president of development William H. Kiel, CFRE, which is the second of a $30,000 commitment made by the Evening Optimist club over a three-year period.

Parks department plans for Corporate Games

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will sponsor the 2005 Corporate Games, Sept. 18 to 30. This event has been developed to promote healthier lifestyles, teamwork, participation and fun for the Cape Girardeau area businesses and employee-based organizations.

Corporate Games will consist of diverse team events to encourage participation from individuals of all interests and abilities. The entry fee will be $275.60 per team. Entry forms can be picked up at the Arena Building, Osage Community Centre, and Central Municipal Pool. Deadline for entry will be Sept. 9 at 5 p.m.
