FALKOFF'S CUTS RIBBON

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Don and Joyce Hart held a ribbon cutting for Men of Falkoff's, 118 E. Front St. The Harts purchased the store from longtime owner David Friedman and his wife. All employees will stay on board at the men's clothing store, including Charlie Miller, who will manage the store.

ITALIAN RESTAURANT OPENS IN SIKESTON

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Morina's Italian Restaurant opened at 901 E. Malone Ave., featuring a variety of Italian and American dishes.

STEVIE'S STEAKBURGER TO REOPEN

Stevie's Steakburger, 600 Broadway in Cape Girardeau, reopened April 16, according to owner Steve Majeed.

KID BIZ CLOSES

Kid Biz, a store in Cape Girardeau's Town Plaza Shopping Center, closed in mid-April. Sharon Ebersohl owned the children's resale business.

BED & BREAKFAST CUTS RIBBON

BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- The Bonne Terre Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting March 12 at Isabella's Bed & Breakfast, 226 Church St. Carolyn Riley owns the business.

DOLLAR GENERAL OPENS IN ORAN

ORAN, Mo. -- A new Dollar General store opened at 304 Route W in Oran. The store has six to 10 employees.

FORMER KFC TO BECOME LITTLE CAESARS

The former Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant at 705 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson is being transformed into a Little Caesars Pizza. According to a building permits filed at Jackson City Hall, Brian Weiss plans to remodel the building before opening a new pizza business at the location. The building has been empty since KFC closed last summer.

ANTIQUE SHOP FEATURED IN MAGAZINE

Annie Laurie's Antiques of Cape Girardeau was featured in the April issue of Midwest Living Magazine. The magazine has a circulation of nearly 4 million copies, according to its website.

OLD TOWN CAPE RECEIVES ACCREDITATION

Old Town Cape received accreditation from the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Center and the Missouri Main Street Connection. It is one of only six Missouri programs to receive accreditation, and this is the eighth year Old Town Cape has received accreditation. The organization received accreditation as part of the National Main Street Conference April 1 to 4 in Baltimore.

US TOOL BUYS FARMINGTON BUILDING

DESLOGE, Mo. -- US Tool Group, based in Desloge, purchased the former Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems manufacturing operation in the Farmington Industrial Park, the Park Hills Daily Journal reported. The company intends to relocate all Desloge operations to the Farmington, Mo., facility within a year.

RESALE SHOP OPENS IN STE. GENEVIEVE

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Klassy Kidz Resale and Things opened March 6 at 260 Merchant St., the Ste. Genevieve Herald reported. Jennifer Nickel owns the resale shop.

BAGGER DAVE'S COMING TO CAPE

Bagger Dave's Legendary Burger Tavern will open this June in the Town Plaza shopping center, 2016 William St. in Cape Girardeau. Owners Bill Zellmer and Lonnie Griggs are the first franchisees of the Michigan-based restaurant chain. They also operate six Buffalo Wild Wings franchises in the region, including one in Town Plaza. Bagger Dave's will employ four managers and 60 full- and part-time staff members. Zellmer and Griggs plan to open additional Bagger Dave's restaurants in Carbondale, Ill.; Paducah, Ky.; Bowling Green, Ky.; Evansville Ind.; and Clarksville, Tenn.

POTTERY CORNER OPENS IN JACKSON

The Pottery Corner opened inside the former Ceramo pottery plant building off Highway 72 in Jackson. It features hundreds of pots in various shapes and colors with inventory changing weekly. Due to the popularity of Ceramo's pottery sales held once or twice a year, the company decided to open a retail store, owner Vernon Kasten said.

SLOAN & THEMIS OPENS DOWNTOWN

Sloan & Themis Co. opened a boutique at 31C N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau. Owner Claire Bruce first started the business as an online retailer. The downtown store sells vintage jewelry and accessories, upcycled jewelry, high-quality beads and craft supplies. It will also feature classes, in-store demonstrations, design services and a beading bar where people can make their own crafts. The store will be open all day Friday through Sunday and offer evening programs during the week.

MEXICAN RESTAURANT TO OPEN IN JACKSON

El Puerto Mexican restaurant will open at 1815 E. Jackson Blvd. in Jackson, in the space adjacent to Beijing Chinese Restaurant. Tom Kelsey, commercial broker with Lorimont Place Ltd., confirmed that El Puerto has leased 3,900 square feet in the building owned by Chad Hartle. Restaurant owner Pedro Cruz has another restaurant of the same name in Blytheville, Ark. Victor Castillo will be manager of the new restaurant.

ANTIQUE STORE OPENS IN FRUITLAND

The Junction Antiques & Collectables opened at the corner of highways 61 and 177 in Fruitland. The site was formerly Bloomers Nursery. The store features furniture, glassware, old advertising pieces and more, said owner Tony LaForest. LaForest has also organized an outdoor flea market at the site and has booth space available for potential vendors.

WEDDING BUSINESS OPENS IN GORDONVILLE

Wedding Rental Solutions opened May 7 in the former Superior Advertising building on Route Z in Gordonville. Owners Suzie and Dwayne Matthews offer decorations and supplies for special occasions including tents, tables and chairs, linens, altarpieces, columns and other display items. Suzie Matthews has been running the business out of her home in Scopus, Mo., for the past two years.

SEMO SMOKES ADDS JACKSON LOCATION

SEMO Smokes opened a second location at 2941 E. Jackson Blvd., Suite B in Jackson. The store, which sells custom-made cigarettes, opened its first location last year at 1412 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The store is owned by Mark Metcalf.

TOWING BUSINESS INDUCTED TO HALL OF FAME

SIKESTON, Mo. -- James Satterfield, who operates Satterfield's Wrecker Service in Sikeston, is among 10 industry leaders selected for induction into the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame. The business was nominated by members of the hall of fame for contributions to the towing and recovery industry and to the community. An induction ceremony will be Sept. 15 in Chattanooga, Tenn.

HUNTING STORE HAS NEW OWNER

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Justin Campbell is the new owner of Ed's Huntin' Stuff, 411 W. Pine Blvd. The 16-year-old business will remain in its current location for now, said Campbell, who bought the store Feb. 4.

CAMERA STORE HAS NEW OWNERS, LOCATION

West Side Camera is under new ownership and has moved to 837 N. Kingshighway in Cape Girardeau. The new owners, David Baird, Tim Bureck and Jeremy Griffin, are expanding the store's offerings to include digital cameras and accessories as well as traditional film cameras. They will also offer cleaning and repair of film and digital cameras, and photography workshops on Saturdays.

MARKEL ACQUIRES MAJORITY INTEREST IN HAVCO

Financial holding company Markel Ventures acquired a majority interest in Havco Wood Products headquartered in Scott City. Havco manufactures laminated oak and composite wood flooring used in the assembly of truck trailers, intermodal containers and truck bodies. Markel Ventures is a subsidiary of Markel Corp., an underwriter of specialty insurance products based in Virginia. Bruce Bader, Havco president and CEO, said there will not be any changes in management or employees as a result of the acquisition. The company employs about 600 workers, half in Scott City and half in Vonore, Tenn.

CAPE MALL UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT

West Park Mall of Cape Girardeau is now under new management. Madison Marquette Retail Services has been retained by Centro Properties Group to provide asset management leasing and property management services for seven regional mall properties across the United States, including West Park Mall. The Centro portfolio has added 5.5 million square feet to Madison Marquette's portfolio, which now totals about 20 million square feet of retail, mixed-use, community and regional mall properties. The seven Centro assets are located in California, Colorado, Missouri, Ohio, Connecticut and North Carolina.
