A new restaurant offering American-style fare with French and Italian influences opened Feb. 14 at 36 N. Main St. in Cape Girardeau.

36 Restaurant & Bar is owned and operated by John Eric and Vanessa Klein of Cape Girardeau.

John Eric Klein said the restaurant offers fresh food daily and a dining experience with "elegant and comfortable ambiance." Space for private parties is available on the restaurant's second floor, with a view of the Mississippi River. The couple spent about six months renovating the building that now houses the restaurant. Access to the restaurant is available from Main Street in the front and Water Street in the back, where Klein said tables may be added to a deck for outdoor dining once warmer weather arrives.

The restaurant has a 15-person staff and a full bar, including craft beers and a wine selection. Houston Sutton is the restaurant's executive chef.

Klein said the menu includes signature food and beverage items.

Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant is closed Sundays.

Sikeston center gets Medicare designation

Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Missouri, recently was selected as a new Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization.

The organizations provide Medicare beneficiaries with access to coordinated care throughout the country at reduced costs. Doctors, hospitals and other health-care providers establish the organizations, according to a news release from the medical center.

Miracle-Ear franchise earns award

The locally owned Miracle-Ear franchise has been recognized as a Platinum Franchise for 2014, meaning it has "excellent customer service, market penetration, staff certification and customer satisfaction," according to a news release from the company.

Miracle-Ear Hearing Aid Center, owned by Ken and Lisa Swinford and Joyce and Jerry Cooley, has offices in Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Sikeston, Farmington, Ste. Genevieve and Poplar Bluff and employs six licensed hearing instrument specialists. This is the eighth time the franchise has won the award.

  • Grass Roots BMW Husqvarna Motorcycles at 28 S. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau will hold an open house Friday to introduce its newly remodeled showroom, 2015 motorcycles and accessories. The open house will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The shop also offers service, parts and apparel.
  • Hair Works, a beauty salon at 1231 Old Cape Road in Jackson, is celebrating 25 years in business with a customer appreciation event from 5 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Club in Jackson. The salon is owned by Cathy Barks and offers styling, cutting and perming services.
  • The Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly business breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Friday at Creative Edge Inc. at 160 N. Enterprise in Jackson. The event was moved from Feb. 20 because of weather conditions.

Architect Craig Milde , a Jackson native, recently returned to the area to head a new office of Dille Traxel Architecture. Milde has 25 years of architectural experience, including 20 years working with sports and mixed-use developments for an international design firm based in Kansas City, Missouri. Milde, according to a news release, joined Dille Traxel to help build the firm's base in the Cape Girardeau area. Milde's past building projects include the Sprint Center, a large, multi-use indoor arena in downtown Kansas City, and in the past, he and his former firm worked with professional sports teams. Some of his current projects at Dille Traxel include work on facilities in the Poplar Bluff School District, an athletic complex at Three Rivers College and rebranding and modifying banks recently acquired by Sterling Bank. Milde is senior architect and director of the Cape Girardeau office, which opened Dec. 30 at 266 S. Mount Auburn Road. The firm also has an office in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

Attorney Trae Bertrand has started his own firm and opened a new office in downtown Cape Girardeau. Bertrand's practice areas include divorce, criminal defense, business law, personal injury and estate planning. He has been practicing civil and criminal law in Missouri and Illinois for 10 years. Before he started his own firm, he was a partner at Bradshaw, Steele, Cochrane & Berens in Cape Girardeau. Bertrand has bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from Southeast Missouri State University and graduated from The University of Tulsa College of Law. He is a member of The Missouri Bar, Illinois State Bar Association and Cape Girardeau County Bar Association and is admitted to practice in state and federal court. The Bertrand Law Firm opened Jan. 1 at 625 Broadway.

In her new position, she is responsible for building customer relationships and managing marketing strategies.
