THE PUBLIC MIND: READER FAVORS SIGNED SPEAK OUT

This article comes from our electronic archive and has not been reviewed. It may contain glitches.

To the Editor:

I am writing in support of Dr. David Crowe's article concerning Speak Out. Having been the target of both positive and negative comments in the column, I don't place much stock in either. If one lacks the conviction to sign his name to his own remarks, that lack of conviction makes those remarks worthless.

Since serving on the Board of Education, I have made it a practice not to respond to anonymous communication. I went on record about this issue in a regular Board of Education meeting in 1990.

If the column has a place in our community, the newspaper has the responsibility to distinguish hearsay and rumor from accurate information. Having people sign their name and stand up for what they believe to be the truth would add strength and credibility to both the column and the newspaper.

Respectfully,

Ed Thompson
