LETTERS: HONOR OUR VETERANS

To the editor:

Nov. 11 is Veterans Day, and there will be a parade in Jackson. Last year I intended to go to the Veterans Day parade, but I forgot. I forgot? How could I? How could I forget something that is so important to the people who have had such an impact on my life? I decided then that I would not only be sure to attend this year's parade, but would remind others to do so.

We must remember that accomplishments are important to all of us, and as we get older and opportunities for new accomplishments are reduced, the memory of past accomplishments and others' acknowledgement of them become increasingly important.

Veterans sacrificed years of their lives at least, and some gave their lives or suffered mental or physical injuries that seriously altered their remaining years. How easy it is for us to forget this and fail to realize the many advantages we have because of their willingness to serve.

While we busily and profitably enjoy the results of their sacrifice, the least we can do is show some respect and give a bit of attention to the past accomplishments of some very important people in our community. Go to the parade.
