LETTERS: MOST PEOPLE WANT LESS GOVERNMENT, NOT MORE

To the editor:

It never ceases to amaze me how Alan Journet manages to distort the facts. No one would disagree that we need to protect the future quality of life and economic wealth of Americans by wise management of our resources and protection for human health.

However, basing his assessment on Congressman Bill Emerson, Sen. Kit Bond and Sen. John Ashcroft's zero score by the League of Conservative Voters is blatantly misleading, especially when you take into consideration Bill Clay, Richard Gephardt and Karen McCarthy had the LCV's top scores among Missouri's congressional delegation. When liberal spenders like this trio score high, it tells me Congressman Emerson and our senators, Bond and Ashcroft, are on the right track.

Unlike Journet and the LCV, most people want less bureaucratic red tape, less spending and less intervention by the federal government.
