Eat some spaghetti; support the parks

The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Foundation will host its annual Spaghetti Day today at the A.C. Brase Arena Building in Cape Girardeau.

The lunch and dinner event helps raise money for city parks and recreation facilities and programs.

Spaghetti and mostacioli will be served from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The meal includes garlic bread, salad, drink and dessert. The Jerry Ford Orchestra will provide entertainment.

Admission is $7 for adults (age 13 and older) and $5 for children. Children 4 and younger eat for free.

Cape Girardeau has some tremendous parks and recreational facilities. A few of the projects funded by the foundation, according to the foundation's blog, include improvements at Shawnee Park Sports Complex, Arena Park Sports Complex and Capaha Field. It also helps fund fitness and recreation equipment.

If you have not visited a local park lately, we encourage you to do so. Capaha Park recently received an upgrade with new playground equipment. Other area parks also provide fun for many people.

We hope you make plans to attend Spaghetti Day today.
