Plenty of events on deck this summer

Memorial Day weekend is an unofficial kickoff for summer. It's a time to get with family and friends, spend time in the pool, barbecue and enjoy other summer fun.

One activity that has drawn interest for the last decade-plus is the 100-Mile Yard Sale. The sale goes through Sunday. Vendors line up along Highway 25 from Jackson to Kennett, Missouri. If you plan to travel this way, please be safe and watch for people.

Saturday a popular pool destination kicks off its summer season. Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center has been opening the umbrellas at the facility, located behind the Osage Centre. The water park has been a great addition to Cape Girardeau. During the summer months you'll see families enjoying the various amenities.

Summer activities are only beginning. A story in the May 16 edition of the Southeast Missourian, which you may read online at semissourian.com, highlights many events scheduled locally in the coming months. Think there is nothing to do? Check out this story and semoevents.com, and you'll find something to your liking.

School is almost out, the weather is warmer and plenty of fun is lined up.

We hope you have a nice Memorial Day weekend and a safe and fun summer.
