New exhibit

The Discovery Playhouse continues to grow. The children's museum in downtown Cape Girardeau recently added a new exhibit that already has drawn excitement from local children.

The Air-Maze-ing exhibit, which features tunnels of air currents that move items such as scarfs and small balls, is the latest addition. The maze occupies about 225 square feet of wall in addition to ceiling space and is a nice addition -- one made possible thanks to a generous community.

In a Southeast Missourian story earlier this month, executive director Pansy Glenn said she was inspired to bring the exhibit to the facility after seeing similar attractions elsewhere. Something like this can be costly, she said, with total costs potentially reaching $75,000. However, this addition to the Cape Girardeau museum was made possible thanks to donated items and labor.

"I just cannot get over the community support," Glenn said. "Cape is amazing when it comes to people wanting to do good things for the community, and with it being for the children, it just kind of blows me away."

Glenn captured our sentiment. The people of this area are a generous bunch, and it's because of this commitment to community that the Discovery Playhouse can serve as an entertainment and learning facility for young children and families.

Thank you to all those who made this new exhibit possible. If you haven't stopped by the museum lately, make plans to do so. Your children will enjoy the fun exhibits and learn something along the way.
