Student defends value of SEMO degree

To the editor:

In response to the "Time for change" Speak Out comment: I agree that many things need changing. The leadership of Southeast Missouri State University, on the other hand, has done an exemplary job in recent years at keeping costs relatively low for students. As a student attending and residing at the university, I am appalled that a resident of the Cape Girardeau area could ever possibly doubt a student that graduates here. The person who compared a SEMO degree to a Mizzou degree and saying it was inferior must have a screw loose. A degree from here is just as good, if not better, because it is a smaller school. Comparing degrees from two state-run Missouri universities is like comparing a diploma from two high schools. My advice: Don't knock a school you are not currently attending.
