Learn to share the roadway

To the editor:

Regarding the issue of merging onto an interstate highway: I am a big-truck driver. Big rigs have some of the most courteous and careful drivers you will find anywhere on earth.

When a roadway is already occupied by a semi and a van, the motorist trying to get on the interstate is required to yield to the existing traffic pattern. Traffic on the interstate is not required nor expected to slow down or stop to let someone enter the roadway.

When no traffic is in the passing lane and if the semi is not going to exit soon, we usually try to let little cars get on the highway.

Remember, the drivers are bringing you everything you have. They are not just driving around. So some consideration from other motorists would not hurt.

Learning how to share the roadway with a big truck should be mandatory for anyone who drives. It would reduce accidents involving semis.
