Congrats to Mo. Sports Hall of Fame inductees

Earlier this month, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame held its enshrinement for its 2016 Class at the Show Me Center, marking only the sixth time it's been held away from its home in Springfield.

Each inductee -- 11 individuals, three programs and two title-winning teams -- had some connection to Southeast Missouri.

Three Rivers College basketball coach Gene Bess was given the Legend Award, the highest honor, and two of his national championship teams (1979 and 1992) were inducted. Joe Scott, a Poplar Bluff attorney and former Missouri basketball standout, received the President's Award. He and Bess had previously been inducted into the HOF.

Also inducted were: former Notre Dame soccer and basketball coach Brad Wittenborn, former Southeast Missouri State softball coach Lana Richmond, former Southeast track athlete Miles Smith, former Southeast football player Eddie Moss, the Capahas amateur baseball program, former Sikeston baseball player Blake DeWitt, former Gideon baseball player Mark Littell, former Charleston and New Madrid County Central basketball coach Lennies McFerren, former Ste. Genevieve football coach Bob Stolzer, the Scott County Central boys and girls basketball programs, the Valle Catholic football program and Sikeston graduate Dr. Rick Wright, who's worked for three professional teams in St. Louis.

Congratulations to each individual, team and program for this great accomplishment!
