TIFF CITY, Mo. (AP) -- A 39-year-old woman from Oklahoma is dead after drowning in the Elk River in Missouri.
The Missouri State Water Patrol says Victoria Ross of Grove, Okla., was drifting on the river in McDonald County just before 11 p.m. Sunday when she called out for help. People with her could not see her because of darkness.
The body was recovered by deputies about an hour later, a half-mile downstream.
