SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Addie Vaughn and Derek Gaines received the Scott County Women in Agriculture scholarship. Vaughn plans to attend Murray State University in Murray, Ky., and Gaines plans to attend Southeast Missouri State University.
  • Aaron Floyd of Jackson received a MAP Scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University next year.

GRADUATIONS

  • Danny Wittenborn, a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, earned a doctorate in technology with an emphasis in engineering education from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind. Wittenborn is employed by Boeing Corp. and lives in Washington, D.C.
  • Clay Matthews of Cape Girardeau earned a doctorate in English from Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Okla.
  • Kari Bickings and Carrie Massey of Oran, Mo., graduated from William Woods University in Fulton, Mo., with master's degrees in education.

HONORS

  • Lynne Karnes, a first-grade teacher at St. Vincent de Paul School, was named a first-prize winner of the Got2BSafe Program for teaching children about abduction prevention. She was awarded $500. The program is run by Honeywell and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
  • Wade Cramer of Jackson made the president's list for the spring 2008 semester at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo.

SCHOOL NEWS

  • Cape Christian School recently received accreditation through the Association of Christian Schools International for grades kindergarten through eight. Accreditation lasts seven years. The school was first accredited in 2001, but has since added grades seven and eight. The school will continue to expand by adding prekindergarten classes for the upcoming school year.   • Shawnee Community College's nursing department received a $34,842 grant to provide a $2,050 scholarship to 16 students. The grant is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Resources and Services Administration.
