For 50 years the USO has served military personnel and their families. In turn, the local United Way supports the USO.
Because so many area families have members serving in the military, the United Way locally supports the international organization.
The benefits of an active USO were seen recently. In Operation Desert Shield, for example, the USO provided entertainment, phone calls home, videos, oasis packages and even coffee and doughnuts for service men and women serving in the Persian Gulf.
