MERMET, Ill. -- Residents across Southern Illinois counted their losses -- and their blessings -- Wednesday after at least four tornadoes cut a swath across this rural area of the state, leaving two people dead, at least 20 injured and scores of homes damaged or destroyed.
A 65-year-old retired hospice worker was found dead in a ravine after the twisters struck.
A few miles away in the town of Grand Chain, a man also died after a tornado damaged his house.
