FISK -- A Brosley man died after his automobile collided with a Union Pacific locomotive Thursday morning.

Hershel Batten, 53, died at 8:12 a.m. after failing to stop his 1986 Oldsmobile at a train crossing while traveling northbound on Butler County Road 627, a mile east of Fisk.

Batten collided with the westbound train and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Although no gate blocks the crossing, it is marked by a sign. The train was also blaring its warning horn.
