Brendan McMeel, a student of St. Vincent DePaul School in Cape Girardeau, qualified to compete in the National History Day Competition in College Park, md., from June 14-18.
McMeel qualified to compete in the national competition by winning first place in the state competition held April 19 in Columbia. His paper, "Lost Cherokee: Lost Identity," adhered to the required theme, "Migrations in History: People, Places and Ideas."
