SoutheastHEALTH announces August's event schedule

SoutheastHEALTH has announced the schedule for several classes, support groups and events to be held this month.

• Tobacco cessation programs: The free event will be held at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, and again at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. Reserve a space by calling (800) 800-5123.
• Diabetes Self-Management Support Group: The free support group facilitated by Southeast's diabetes educators will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at HealthPoint Plaza in Cape Girardeau. The program is geared toward people who are living with diabetes and trying to control blood glucose. Friends and family members are also welcome. This month's topic is "Diabetes and Sleep Apnea". • Heart Saver CPR Certification Class: This instructor-led course that teaches adult and child CPR and AED use, infant CPR and how to relieve choking in adults, children and infants, will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, at HealthPoint Fitness in Jackson. The course is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card for CPR and AED use to meet job, regulatory or other requirements. This class is not for health care providers seeking a BLS class. Cost of the class is $50 and includes a booklet. • Grief Support Group -- "Models and Guides for Grief": The SoutheastHEALTH Grief Support Group will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. For more information, call Southeast Hospice at (573) 335-6208.
• Free skin cancer screening: SoutheastHEALTH and Advanced Dermatology will hold a free skin cancer screening from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19, at Southeast Cancer Center.
• Healthy cooking class -- "Powerful Snacks": The class taught by HealthPoint Nutritional Services coordinator Laura Vollink will be held Monday, Aug. 21, at HealthPoint Fitness in Cape Girardeau. Cost is $5. To register, call (573) 986-4444.
• Red Cross blood drive: Southeast Hospital will host a blood drive from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, in the hospital's Harrison Room. To register as a donor, visit www.rcblood.org/appt.
• Summer career fair: This event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 31, in the Harrison Room at Southeast Hospital. On-site interviews will be conducted for food service/cook, unit secretary, housekeeping, patient care technician, patient services representative and phlebotomist. Participants should bring their resume.
