Awiakta, an award-winning Cherokee poet and storyteller, will speak on "Gender Balance in Cherokee Society" at a Common House presentation May 14.
She will speak at 12:15 p.m. in Room 124 of Southeast Missouri State University's Dempster Hall.
Awiakta authored "Selu: Seeking the Corn-Mother's Wisdom" and "Abiding Appalachia: Where Mountain and Atom Meet."
