Cape Girardeau firefighter/paramedic Jason Poole is lowered into a utility tunnel Friday, June 23, 2017 during a training exercise at Southeast Missouri State University. Members of the Homeland Security Regional Team, including Capt. Sean Mitchell, left, with Jackson Fire Rescue, and Sgt. Derick Wheetley, right, with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, trained in various scenarios over five days with instructors from Chicago, California and Washington State. The training, costing about $6,000, was provided with a grant from the International Association of Fire Fighters to members of Local 1084. The regional team serves a 13-county area of Southeast Missouri.

Cape Girardeau firefighters assist photographer Larry Shapiro during a shoot Tuesday, June 27, 2017 of the department's new 100-foot aerial ladder truck in front of Common Pleas Courthouse in Cape Girardeau. The city purchased six new fire trucks, built by Rosenbauer Fire Apparatus in Minnesota, for $3.8 million. The manufacturer will use the photograph on its 2018 calendar and also in trade magazines.

Community members then walked down the streets from Indian Park to Ranney Park stopping at each location of those who have died to violence. 'If I can just help one person it's not going to be in vain." Roberson said.

"When I called him, weirdest phone call I've ever made in my life, I mean think about it. My daughter's dead, you're wearing her heart. I remember, I said hello Jack, this is Abbey's dad, Bill, how you doing, Jack goes I'm doing fine Mr. Conner, then we didn't say anything for five minutes, we just cried, the both of us, because it's like, what do you say." Bill Conner said as he talks about one of the organ recipients he is going to meet up with along his journey on bike from Madison, Wisconsin to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for organ-donor awareness after his daughter was found dead in a pool.
