People posing as American Red Cross volunteers have illegally solicited donations from area businesses over the past week, Cape Girardeau police said.

"We never send people door to door to collect donations," said Red Cross director Mary Burton, nor does the Red Cross solicit donations over the phone.
Subjects face misdemeanor charges for stealing by deceit, said patrolman Jason Selzer.
