New Year's resolutions: BoCo speaks out

Making New Year's resolutions is easy. But keeping them.... Well, that's something altogether different; however, a few local residents who go regularly to Tri-City Senior Citizen's Nutrition Center in Marble Hill are giving it a try in 2024.

Maybe everyone there Friday -- the last day the center was open in 2023 -- had made a New Year's resolution. Maybe not. But 12 of them had plenty to say about their resolve for the upcoming year.

• Sue Summers, 67, Marble Hill: "Try to get some place on time. I'm always late."

• Charlotte Peters, 75, Marble Hill: "I've got a puppy. He's 9 months old, and he's got to get trained. I'm determined he's going to be trained. One way or the other, one of us has got to be trained."
• Chester Hayes, 75, Marble Hill: "To give more money to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. If people don't do it, where are they going to get the money?"
• Nancy Strothmann, 49, Marquand: "To send a card to someone every month for the entire year."
• Roger Huff, 77, Marble Hill: "Help my wife more cleaning the house."
• Diane Dansby, 76, Scopus: "To do my daily Bible readings in a different version of the Bible."
• Ray Meek, 85, Glen Allen: "I desire to be a better servant of the Lord in 2024."
• Vickie Slinkard, 70, Burfordville: "I want to ride my bike more this year."
• Piper Moehsmer, 8, Sedgewickville: "To come [to the senior center] more to host -- serve drinks, take plates, help."
• Erwin Lipsinsky, 81, Marble Hill: "My New Year's resolution is to never make New Year's resolutions."
• Mildred Shell, 104, Marble Hill: "I don't make 'em. I never make 'em."
