This mystery photo was published in the Dec. 21, 1960 Southeast Missourian. It shows Mrs. Kenneth Burnham in front of Kroger in the Town Plaza receiving a new 1961 Volkswagen. She won a contest by figuring the actual weight of the car and groceries. Kroger opened a new store in the Town Plaza Shopping Center in Cape Girardeau on Aug. 11, 1960.

Sunny skies and peppy music was the menu at Jackson today as bands from the district converged on the county seat for the annual band festival to be climaxed after today’s parade by a public concert tonight of the massed musicians. These youngsters were among the first to arrive and tune up their instruments.
