An even dozen lassies make up the cheerleaders’ A team at Notre Dame High School. Leading their student body in pep and yells through the basketball season just ending were these girls, left, front: Jane Patrick, Barbara Rafferty, Pat Meyers, Sharon Braun and Lorelei Schwartz. This “Operation Medico,” staged by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, shows boxes of medicine collected from local physicians by the men to be shipped overseas to aid those in need in far eastern nations. The supplies were assembled at the Tucker truck terminal, shipped to St. Louis, thence to a seaport for consignment abroad. From the left are Robert Hemperley, Jaycee president; Clarence Shirrell, Jim Griffaw, Gene Cavaner, chairman of the project committee, and David Briggs. (G.D. Fronabarger/Southeast Missourian archive) The man second from the right is Jean Cavaner. He was associated with his mother at Big Star Market from 1961 to 1972. He then started Shoppers Warehouse Market, the first discount grocery store in Cape Girardeau.
Christine Griffaw remarked: "My father is third from left, James L. Griffaw."
