Aug. 17, 1956 Southeast Missourian. These are youngsters who received courtesy awards for their performance during the recent Little League and Babe Ruth baseball seasons and members of the Breakfast Optimist Club who presented the awards at a meeting Monday. Cape Girardeau's municipal courtroom was located in the sanctuary of the former Grace United Methodist Church, Independence and Sprigg streets. The city police station moved into the former church building in 1960. Kiwanis Club members gave their time on Oct. 5, 1961 taking several hundred school pupils over the city, visiting industries, commercial establishments and observing the operation of the varied phases of city government. One feature of Kids' Day was a mock trial at the City Court room, where youngsters took turns sitting as "jurors" during the trials and club members and attorneys gave their time to acquaint the youngsters with City Court procedure. William S. Rader is sitting as the judge.

Oct. 6, 1956 Southeast Missourian. Employees and their families of Division 10 of the State Highway Department, assembled here Friday at Arena Park for their annual dinner and program of entertainment. A crowd of nearly 1000 persons attended. Here, at a guests’ table, are department officials and some local guests. At the left are Chairman Harris D. Betty Landre recognized the woman at the far right as her mother, Mrs. Val (Netz) Mueller. She added, the ladies were eating at the Petit N'Orleans.
