March 18, 1959 Southeast Missourian. Community beautification. These members of the Future Farmers of America chapter at Kelly High School, near Benton, Missouri, are shown as they pitched in Friday on a community project on the Chamber of Commerce property at Benton, planting multiflora rose and loblolly pine. Nov. 4, 1960 Southeast Missourian. Fall and its multi-colored foliage is bringing out visitors to scenic spots in this area, one of the best of which is Trail of Tears State Park which daily has hundreds of visitors, like this group of girls making up Brownie Troop 59 of the Girl Scouts from Trinity Lutheran Church. Future development of Trail of Tears, and other Missouri parks, will hinge directly on voter approval Tuesday of Amendment No. 3. The troop is a new one. The girls and their leaders, Mrs. Walter Maevers and Mrs. Albert Lunsford, are shown in one of the most scenic spots in the park near the Mississippi River overlook, and from the left, besides the leaders, are Karen Maevers, Barbara Seibel, Patti Birk, Frances Lemonds, Janet Tuhfmann, Sara Taylor, Susan Haertling, Linda Martin, (hidden), Ruth Ellen Bertling and Donna Lunsford. Aug. 9, 1958 Southeast Missourian. Tools used in speech and hearing therapy at the Easter Seal Rehabilitation Center are put to use by these three youngsters—the other figures are reflections in a mirror. Mark Heisserer, son of Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Heisserer of Chaffee, and Nancy Werner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Werner, 1028 Perry, are engaged in a telephone conversation, while Wayne Holifield, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.E. Holifield of Jackson, talks into a tape recorder. The youngsters were among 35 who took an intensive eight-week speech and hearing therapy program this summer at the center.
