KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City man who pleaded guilty to torturing and killing a puppy was sentenced Monday to four years in prison.

Antonio Whitley, 30, was accused of kicking, punching and throwing a neighbor's golden retriever puppy Sept. 1. The dog died.

The puppy's owner was not home at the time of the incident.

Whitley's public defender, Dan Goldberg, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
