NEW YORK -- Transit officials say a passenger angry a bus driver told her to stop smoking took the vehicle for a joy ride. Metropolitan Transportation Authority spokesman Kevin Ortiz said the bus driver noticed the woman smoking and asked her to extinguish her cigarette and get off the bus Tuesday on Manhattan's upper East Side. Ortiz said the woman became irate, and the driver began transferring riders to another bus. The woman jumped into the driver's seat and began driving.
