Jerry Heise of Cape Girardeau has been awarded a teaching assistantship at Purdue University.
The assistantship will pay his tuition and living expenses while he attends a doctoral program in chemistry at the university.
Heise graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He is also a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.
He is the son of David and Jeanne Heise of Cape Girardeau Route 1.
