ST. LOUIS -- A popular resident of the St. Louis Zoo has died.
Zoo officials say the grizzly bear "Bert" was euthanized Tuesday at age 25. He had been in ill health with age-related problems. His brother, "Ernie," died at age 21 in 2011.
The two bears were rescued by zoo officials in 1991 after being orphaned in Alaska. Their mother had been shot by a state wildlife agent after raiding homes in suburban Anchorage.
