A 10-year-old Cape Girardeau girl was injured when a playmate accidentally shot her in the head with a BB gun, police said Thursday.

The playmate, an 11-year-old neighbor boy, was referred to juvenile authorities. The shooting occurred Tuesday at 6:45 p.m. in the 200 block of Marlin.
Police said the BB had to be surgically removed from the right side of the girl's head at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. They said the girl was released from the hospital after being treated.
