Fort D Days

Matt Varnum, a member of Big River Volunteers, a Confederate reenactment group from Fredericktown, Mo., portrays a dismounted Confederate soldier demanding the Union forces surrender. The scene was loosely based on the Battle of Cape Girardeau 150 years ago. Reenactors Scott House, center, and Rob Weeks rejected the demand and the battle ensued.
