The explosion which wrecked the gelatin house of the Hercules Powder Co. at Fayville, Ill., killing five men and injuring three others, was felt in Cape Girardeau early today. Windows rattled and there was a perceptible tremor.
Smoke could be seen in the general direction of Fayville, especially from the waterfront, and several calls came to The Missourian to know if there had been an explosion there. Others at first believed it was an earthquake.
