Emergency personnel are investigating what appears to be some kind of possible fuel leak in the creek that runs along West End Boulevard between Southern Expressway and Highway 74.

That section of roadway was closed off around 10 p.m. Wednesday while officers searched the creek trying to identify the source of the gas odor, said Cape Girardeau police officer Robert Ross.

A petroleum-based liquid of some kind was found in the creek, Ross said.
