JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has set up a website to accept donations for state parks.
The agency says that state parks are struggling because they're funded through a special sales tax. With consumers buying less in a tough economy, revenue from the tax has declined.
DNR estimates the average Missourian pays about $6 per year for parks. The agency says that's not enough to keep pace with the rising costs of running the sites.
