FRUITLAND - A Chicago, Ill. man who apparently fell asleep at the wheel Friday morning sustained moderate injuries when the van he was driving ran off Interstate 55 and overturned.
The Missouri Highway Patrol at Poplar Bluff reported the accident victim, Cornelius Gibbs, 68, was taken to St. Francis Medical Center.

Gibbs was driving a 1984 Dodge van north when he apparently fell asleep a mile north of Fruitland, said a patrol spokesperson.
The accident occurred at 7:50 a.m., the spokesperson said.
