William Campbell, a senior at Cape Girardeau Central High School, has been named a commended student in the National Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students.
Campbell's score on a national qualifying test placed him in the top 3,000 of nearly 100,000 black students who took the test.
His score, however, did not qualify him for semi-finalist standing.
The National Achievement Scholarship Program is a part of the National Merit Scholarship program.
