CARUTHERSVILLE MAN DIES IN SINGLE-VEHICLE TRAFFIC ACCIDENT

Billy R. Smith, 67, of Caruthersville was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle accident Sunday on Pemiscot County Road 431, three miles north of Steele. According to the Poplar Bluff state police report, Smith apparently backed into a tree, accelerated forward through a ditch into a cornfield, then crossed the road and struck a tree.
