Published Nov. 19, 1989. Hank Mellone, owner of Eggimann Feed, 514 Independence St., watched as pecans fed through his new pecan "nutcracker." Mellone said the pecan crop was down that year, but he was still getting plenty of requests for nut-cracking jobs. Snuggs, Mellone's dog, waited for a sample from one of the cracked pecans. Published Dec. 1, 1986. Carol Miller, cashier for the city of Cape Girardeau, sold some of the taxi cab coupon books which went on sale the first working day of every month. The 700 booklets were typically sold out before noon on the first day, with long lines waiting for the doors to open at city hall. Most were purchased by senior citizens and handicapped persons. Published March 16, 1966. About 495 residents of Cape Girardeau purchased city vehicle licenses Tuesday in a last-minute rush to purchase the stickers before the deadline. The accompanying picture shows a sprinkling of the late purchasers 15 minutes before the clerk's office closed. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Published Sept 19, 1976. Surrounded by a crowd of sign-carrying supporters, Gov. Christopher S. Bond paid a brief visit late Saturday to the Southeast Missouri District Fair.
