Harold Palmer, left, and his father, Jim Palmer, owner of Uncle Ralph's Furniture, moved a 9-foot-tall, wing-back chair into their new location at 1739 N. Kingshighway. It replaced a slightly smaller chair which was lost June 2 in a fire which destroyed the business at its former location downtown. Griffaw Manfuacturing of Cape Girardeau made the giant chair. A Greyhound bus arrived at the Union Bus Depot on Frederick Street on Feb. 28, 1990, a day before Greyhound drivers were scheduled to go on strike across the nation. At that time, six Greyhound buses operated through Cape Girardeau between St. Louis and Memphis, Tennessee. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Cape Girardeau Mayor Pro Tem David Limbaugh signed a proclamation making March 12-18 Girl Scout Week in the city. Scouts attending the proclamation signing at City Hall were Emily Stanley, Wendy Allen, Myra Crawford, Amy Allen, Erika Lang, Lillian Dean, Ame Maevers and Jessica Morrows. Jim Casteel installed sections of a metal roof on the new open-air pavilion in downtown Cape Girardeau. The pavilion, a joint project of the Downtown Merchants Association and the Downtown Redevelopment Corporation, was situated in the parking lot across from Hutson Furniture.
