Although these Boy Scouts from Troop 21 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church didn't have to worry about the availability of flags, American flags had become difficult to come by since the beginning of the Persian Gulf War. Published March 8, 1991. Winona Crampton's first graders at Franklin School learned about reading the headlines as a start to newspaper readership. "Headlines are often simple words that you can learn to pronounce for yourself," Kim McDowell, Newspaper in Education coordinator for the Southeast Missourian, explained to these basic readers who visited the Missourian office.
