For 53 years Richard Esicar brought home the bacon. As a youngster, he worked in his father's Cape Girardeau meat market. Esicar quoted his father as saying, "Anybody can be a butcher, but if you really know what you're doing, you are a meat cutter." (Southeast Missourian archive)

Bettie Forsythe played a tune on a new piano, which was donated to the Scott City Elementary School by the PTO. Mrs. Forsythe was substituting for music teacher Lorraine Adams. Members of the kindergarten music class included, above, Aron Pender, Arica Kluesner, Dana Adams, Carletta Henson, Mike Coonts, Angela Field, David Carter, Donnie Wiley, Annie Hink, Ryan Oller, Chad Clymer, Brannon Roberts, Jonathan McCraig, Ryan Dees, Patrick Moore and David Mayberry.
