The Cape Girardeau Public School Maintenance Department, along with 35 workers from the Missouri Division of Employment, worked from 7 a.m. until late afternoon Tuesday, to put up the bubble over the Cape Central Municipal Pool. (Mark Sterkel ~ Southeast Missourian archive)

The Delta High School Future Farmers of America presented a "Food for America" program to students at May Greene School. The program was designed to give the students a better idea about agriculture and where food comes from. Farm animals and farm machinery were brought in for the students to see, and discussions about food and agriculture were conducted in the classroom. Sixth grade students from Franklin School made a field trip to the lagoon at Capaha Park to practice what they learned during a special class about fishing. The Missouri Conservation Department sponsored a Missouri Angler Program in more than 100 schools throughout the state in which students learned about fishing equipment and safety. Some students went fishing for the first time during the program.
