It certainly wasn't "New Wave" music, but the percussion instruments were modern for a performance by the "Hoover Quartet" during a concert by the Southeast Missouri State University Symphonic Wind Ensemble at University Center. "A Grand, Grand Overture," written nearly 30 years ago by Malcolm Arnold, featured the sounds of vacuum cleaners. From the left were university guest musicians Dean of the College of Humanities Dr. Fred B. Goodwin, soprano Dustbuster; Southeast President Dr. Bill W. Stacy, alto Hoover; Vice President for Student Services Dr. Thomas J. Risch, tenor upright Hoover, and Southeast Indians football coach Bob Smith, bass shop vac.
