Published Dec. 2, 1988. A Pontiac Sunbird and a Pontiac Bonneville collided on the Illinois side of the Mississippi River Bridge after icy conditions caused problems. Published Aug. 20, 1970. Wade Callicut, director of secondary education, on the left, gave a helping hand preparing a handbook of regulations and general information for teachers at Central High School. Published Nov. 12, 1990. Twin eagles stood guard over the four pillars at Freedom Corner on which were mounted plaques with the names of 207 Cape Girardeau County men and women who had died for their country since World War I. Retired Missouri Army National Guard Brig. Gen. Narvol Randol, speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony, urged those present to hold high the torch of freedom and liberty for all the world to see, and never forget veterans' sacrifices. Published Oct. 19, 1968. Preparing the schedule for the Southeast Missouri High School Journalism Clinic were directors of the program, Mrs. Howard Bock, a Central High School faculty member, and Robert P. Knight, assistant professor of journalism at the University of Missouri. About 150 high school pupils were expected to attend the session at Central HIgh School. (Southeast Missourian archive)

Published Feb. 27, 1979. Pupils at St. Augustine's School at Kelso, Missouri, participated in a variety of activities that were planned to heighten their learning. Sister Jane Gegg, second from left, helped three of her pupils learn to play the guitar.
