Two excavators cut a slope along Cape LaCroix Creek east of the 200 block of South Broadview Wednesday in Cape Girardeau. Brenda Kay Construction and Dumey Excavation are continuing work on the Cape LaCroix Creek flood control project. Concrete will be poured in the area for a channel floor and also on the slopes. Barbara Popp, Marjorie Swan and Shery Varney were winners in the first-ever Mrs. Oliver Look-Alike Contest held Sunday in Jackson. It may have been a bit crowded on the riverfront, thanks to the higher-than-normal water level, but the lucky spectators who found seats inside the floodwall had a ring-side view of the American Wind Symphony's concert Friday night. Ron Hahs has identified this previous mystery photo. "The event was a 4-H Club county-wide event where we auctioned off ourselves to work for the person who 'bought' us. I was purchased by my grandpa, George Kasten, who is feeling my muscle. My grandma, Mary Barks Hahs, is beside me and sister, Nancy Hahs Adelsberger is looking on."
